Isabella CRUICKSHANK

by: Cindy on October 14, 2007

Alexander and Isabella WATT (nee FINCHER) arrived in Sydney, Australia in 1857. On immigration records she states her father is William, dead and her mother Isabella CRUICKSHANK is in Bendigo, Victoria. Unknown if it is her married name or maiden name, as the Scots kept their maiden names. The Parish Records of Rayne have been gone through and thought she was found, but can’t connect this particular Isabella CRUICKSHANK with anyone in Australia.

CRUICKSHANK’s in Halifax, Canada

by: Cindy on October 14, 2007

There were Cruickshanks in Halifax when I was growing up and I believe there are still some of that family name remaining in Halifax today. I have had a look in the “Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada before Confederation [1767]” by Donald Whyte, F.H.G.,F.S.G. and there are several listed (var spelling). It gives the place of origin in Scotland for some of them, if you think this would be of any help I can give you the info. Also Canada 411 and Halifax Nova Scotia would give you names, addresses and phone numbers of any of these family members still in Halifax.
