Mr G.H. Lodge was a prominent resident in early Cuballing. With Dr J.B. Lewis and Eli Hart, J.P., he was a director of the Great Southern Pastoral and Agricultural Company Ltd., with head office at Alton Street, Cuballing. As Managing Director they appointed Thomas Reynolds, J.P. of “Dungog”, Cuballing. The company’s affairs began very brightly, but then Thomas Reynolds was convicted of forgery and imprisoned. He was a ruined man and the directors of the company, including Mr Lodge, were also badly affected financially. Reynold’s trial and conviction were in May/June 1913, so Mrs Lodge’s death that December must have been the final blow for him.
